Are you familiar with luxury vinyl flooring?

Luxury vinyl checks all of the boxes when it comes to style and function. It's waterproof, so that makes it ideal for the kitchen, bath, or any wet space. It also has such a high-end look that we're seeing it in every room in the house, and some of those homes are places where once nothing but natural wood and stone would ever be considered.

This flooring is so durable, it will withstand the heaviest foot traffic, kids, and pets. It's also a popular option among restaurant designers who love both the style and the material's ability to stand up to constant foot traffic, dropped items, and spills. Best of all, it is very budget-friendly.

What is it?

For those not yet familiar, ask your luxury vinyl flooring retailer to show you samples, because it's pretty amazing. It is a realistic mimic of wood, tile, or stone and is available in a wide assortment of colors, patterns, designs, and species. It follows the trends, so it's easy to get light gray or whitewashed floors; a copper slate floor or some fun pops of color for the retro style.

Embossing gives depth and dimension and textured appearances, such as hand-scraped, wire-brushed, distressed or weathered look. It comes in matte, gloss, and high-gloss finishes. One of the best design options is that you can get it cut into planks (LVP) or square tile-sized pieces (LVT). Some feel the extra seams give it more realism.

How is it different from standard sheet vinyl?

It's a thicker, more advanced version of the standard sheet. It has a dense, clear thick wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. While sheet vinyl comes in sheets or composite tiles, it also doesn't offer the option of having it cut.

Like any vinyl flooring, luxury is easy to care for with just a broom and periodic mopping. Installation is the uncomplicated floating floor. The pieces click together like a puzzle to form a mat. It then hovers over the subfloor with no nails or glue needed.
